My partner and I make every excuse to go eat here. "I have a day off, let's go to Edelweiss. We have business to take care of in Roanoke, let's go to Edelweiss." The biggest problem with this place is that once you go YOU. WILL. be hooked. We eat light all day then stuff our faces full of this delightfully novel cooking style and atmosphere. You can't leave without trying a desert and enjoying it with a cup of coffee.
This is my favorite place to stop off I81 on my way back to Northern Virginia when I visit Virginia Tech. The staff is friendly, service is quick, the place is clean, and it's atmosphere is very fitting to the authentic German theme. I haven't been to Germany myself, but my father was stationed there during his time with the army and also vouches for the food's autheticity. He introduced me to it, and I ended up loving it for offering something better and more special than fast food franchises.
Edelweiss is a throwback in all the best ways. Family dining right off the highway in a setting that is charmingly "theme dining." The staff are pleasant and the food is quick! We learned a little about the family history behind the restaurant and enjoyed a quiet dining experience with a handful of other tables across the way. A little bit sleepy, but it was a weeknight and certainly not a blemish on the establishment.
Not sure if the place is authentic German food but it’s a unique tasting good food and plenty of it priced reasonably. The Black Forest cake was awesome. They offer you refills on the vegetables but there is no way the average person can finish the portions in the first round. The place is off the beaten path and the building is a rustic log cabin. Very satisfied - just like everyone else.
My mom is a person who loves her a good chain restaurant, but my partner and I will be taking her to Edelweiss knowing that the pure charm of the little cottage tucked away, and the friendly staff will win her over!!!
Excellent authentic German food and atmosphere, live accordion player even who was actually really good. They give you a lot of food and is priced good. Great place, a must try!
Oh my, I almost forgot to mention the veggie patty!!! My partner is a meat lover and so am I, we've both dabbled in the vegan & vegetarian world so we love to try those options too when we go out. The veggie sampler is a showstopper! It's so hearty in its meaty texture. We order one every time!
